Surah al-Bayyinah ayah 5
Wa maa umiru illa li ya'budu Allaha mukhlisina la hu ad-diina hunafa wa yuqimu as-salata wa yu'tu az-zakata wa dhalika diinu'l-qayyimah
And they were not commanded, except to serve Allah, keeping religion pure and upright for Him, and to perform the salat and give the zakat. And that is the upstanding religion

About the People of the Scripture, the surah says that they were enjoined only to worship Allah sincerely, establish prayer which is the best kind of worship, and pay the zakat. On the basis of these verses, many scholars like Imam Zuhri, Imam Shafi' and others argued that belief includes acts because Allah has called the worship, the prayer, and the payment of zakat as religion
