Ramadan, Day 29

Quran 70:4:

The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in a day, its measure is fifty thousand years.

This verse comes in the middle of a passage about Judgment Day. Much of the later parts of the Quran consists of very vivid descriptions of Judgment Day, particularly (as seen in the following verses 8-9) the overturning of the cosmos. Although these passages appear late in the current arrangement of the Quran, they were among the first to be revealed. The Quran is not arranged chronologically or in thematic or self-contained chapters. Instead, some have compared its structure to a piece of music, with certain themes repeating themselves regularly throughout and the same story sometimes appearing in variations. It may be somewhat startling or confusing for people who are used to the Bible, but perhaps not so strange for those who like poetry or music.
