My Niqab Story
Assalamu alaikum,
Before learning about the veil, I was quiet confused and thought it as an
option to cover the face. However, after reading the hijab ayats in surah
ahzab, I got convinced and understood why it is a must to cover the face as
well (especially in today's society).
We had a long discussion on these ayats in class in which the term HIJAB was
clearly explained. hijab literally means a screen. In todays mix society it
is impossible to create screens or walls to segregate men and women so this
veils acts as a screen or barrier when communicating with men. We cannot
even open our emotions to non mehram men (like laughing openly...) so this
veil hides our emotions from them.
One of my class fellows got married and I gave her an Islamic book on "women
in Islam." I was curious to learn further about the veil so that my concepts
are clear before I do amal on it. I looked through the book and found out
that all four imams agree that the veil should be worn, especially when
there is fear of fitna around you. After reading about that, I wondered that
in the prophets time there were less fitnas and still the women covered
their face. From there I got further yaqeen how important it is to wear the
veil especially today when we face more fitnas.
Alhamdullilah, after studying about the veil my concepts got clear and I got
further convinced and certain of wearing it. At first, I hesitated a bit
going out with the veil because today's society is quiet open and rarely
anyone wears it. Alhamdullilah, to some extent I overcame this hesitation
and felt more respected before people. This further gave me confidence.
Salam,
