Network of Spiritual Progressives Kick-Off Conference July 20-23

The Spiritual Activism Conference, to be held in Berkeley, CA and sponsored by the Tikkun Community, among others, is intended to help build an organization to counter reactionary thought in America, and to revitalize voices for peace, human rights, love and compassion. Organizing goals include:

* Stopping the appropriation of God by the religious right;
* Building an alliance between secular, religious and spiritual but not religious progressives; and
* Developing a new bottom line that champions love, caring, social justice and ecological sanity over money and power.

Speakers are expected to include Rabbi Michael Lerner (editor of Tikkun), Jim Wallis (editor of Sojourners and author of God's Politics), John Shelby Spong (former Episcopal Bishop), Sylvia Boorstein (Buddhist teacher), Mary Elizabeth Moore, Riane Eisler, Joan Borysenko, Van Jones, David Korten, Michael Nagler, Sheikh Kabir Helminski, John Cobb, Arun Gandhi (grandson of the Mahatma), Carl Pope (chair of the Sierra Club), Welton Gaddy (chair of the Interfaith Alliance), Jeffrey Kuan, Rita Nakashimi Brock, Rabbi Rami Shapiro, Members of Congress Lynn Woolsey and Jim Moran, Ched Meyers, Osagyefu Uhura Sekou and many others with a broad range of spiritual perspectives.
