Kucinich On House Floor: "The State Of Our Union Is… Asleep"
Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) delivered the following speech today on the House floor in advance of the President's State of the Union address:
"Mr. Speaker. The State of the Union is…. Asleep. This Administration cannot account for nine billion dollars it controlled in Iraq for a nine month period ending last October. Wake Up America!
"While nine billion went unaccounted for, the Administration did not have enough money for bullet proof vests, or armor plated protection for troops. It also fought against increasing the combat death benefit and cut veterans benefits.
"And yet for nine months, an average of $30 million each and every day, a total of nine billion could not be accounted for by the Administration's Coalition Provision Authority (CPA), according to the CPA's own Inspector General. Do we hear a federal grand jury stirring?
"Was the $9 billion money stolen? Was it used for a "Bribes for Peace" or "Rent-A-Friend" in Iraq. Was used for a paid assassins program? Or, was it funneled elsewhere, to spend money to foment chaos, disorder and violence?
"This Administration could not find WMDs, Osama Bin Laden and now nine billion dollars is unaccounted for. They want another $80 billion while Halliburton makes a killing on overcharges. Now they want us to trust them with Social Security? I don't think so. Wake Up America!"
