Kucinich Sworn-In To 5th Term In US House; Announces First Action Will Be A District-Wide Tour To Discuss Perils Of Social Security Privatization
Stating Preserving Social Security For All Generations His Top Priority In New Congress; Kucinich Will Hold Five Town Hall Meetings Throughout District In The Next Month
Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH), today, was sworn-in to his fifth term as a United States Congressman from the Tenth District of Ohio. Kucinich, first elected to Congress in 1996, will serve on the House Education and the Workforce Committee and the House Government Reform Subcommittee in the 109th Congress. Kucinich will also continue to serve as the Ranking Member on the House Government Reform Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats and International Relations.
Immediately following his swearing-in, Kucinich announced his first action will be a district-wide tour to discuss the perils of Social Security privatization. In a series of town hall meetings to be held in Lakewood, Garfield Heights, Rocky River, Parma and Cleveland over the next month, Kucinich will discuss his opposition to the Administration's plan to privatize Social Security, debunk the false claim that there is a Social Security "crisis", and detail his plans to preserve Social Security for all generations.
"It is a honor and privilege to be sent back to Congress by the people of the 10th District of Ohio," Kucinich stated. "It will be my top priority in this new Congress to fight any effort to privatize Social Security, and stop the theft of the retirement security of my constituents," continued Kucinich. "I believe this Administration has done a real disservice by scaring the American public into believing Social Security is facing a ‘crisis'. The Social Security Trust Fund is not only secure, but will run a surplus for decades. No other government or corporate entity can say the same thing. Social Security is a bedrock promise made to all generations. The only real danger Social Security faces is the $2 trillion willful destruction planned by this Administration."
