Kucinich on National Defense (Kucinich for Congress)

From the Kucinich for Congress issues page on national defense:

A Sensible National Security Policy

America has a right to defend herself. But our leaders must know the difference between offense and defense and should not create wars. It is imperative that America work with the United Nations and the world community to encourage respect for international law. America must lead the way toward getting rid of nuclear weapons. We must reinstate the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and the ABM Treaty. America must participate in the Biological Weapons Convention, the Chemical Weapons Convention, the Small Arms Treaty, and the Land Mine Treaty. It is time for America to join the International Criminal Court. Congressman Kucinich believes that the only way America truly can be secure is to work with the world community in establishing a sustainable structure of international law. International cooperation is needed to successfully meet the challenges of terrorism in the 21st century.

Waste, fraud and mismanagement must be eliminated from the Pentagon budget. The Pentagon has over one trillion dollars in accounts which cannot be reconciled! Yet over 50% of America's discretionary spending now goes for the Pentagon. Money is being wasted on weapons systems which do not work while our troops lack proper equipment and our veterans see access to health care cut off. In an era of large budget deficits and cutbacks in a wide range of education, health and social programs, we have a special obligation to make sure that every penny which is spend on defense is spent wisely.
