Kucinich: CIA’s Outlook For Iraq’s Future Proves Iraq War Has Been A Catastrophic Failure
According to today’s New York Times the CIA’s latest National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq’s future states that the best-case scenario for Iraq’s future is a continuation of the violence and instability that exists today. Today, Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) issued the following statement on the deteriorating situation in Iraq:
“The war against Iraq and the continued occupation has been a complete and total catastrophic failure. Over 1,000 United States solders have been killed, and America’s reputation in the world has been tarnished. We went to war alone, and now we are stuck in Iraq alone. The United States is occurring 90% of the causalities in Iraq, and the American taxpayer is paying 90% of the cost.
“After 18 months of war and occupation today we learn that the best-case scenario for the future of Iraq is continued violence and political and economic insecurity. The path this Administration has set our nation on is unsustainable. It is long past time we reevaluate what we are doing in Iraq. We cannot continue with this Administration’s failed policies.
“It is time to bring the UN in and get the US out. Bring our troops home, and restore our creditability in the international community.”
