You've Made the Difference, a message from Dennis Kucinich

You've Made the Difference
August 25, 2004

Video Transcript:

Hi everyone, Dennis here.

Well, I'm home -- literally. Welcome to my back yard in Cleveland, Ohio, the place where my political career began so many years ago. But I can tell you at this moment, you're in my thoughts with a great deal of gratitude for the efforts that each and every one of you has made over the last couple years.

My campaign for President of the United States has made it possible because you cared enough about your home, about your family, about your children, about the future of this country to take a stand and become involved.

And you made a difference. Our campaign made a tremendous impact on the Democratic Party, and that impact is going to be felt for years to come. And it's because of the commitment that you made working in your neighborhood, in your city, and at your campus.

I have to tell you that I feel so fortunate to have the kind of support which enabled me to run, not only in every caucus and every primary, but also to participate in the Democratic National Convention and to be on that platform there giving a speech about our hopes, our dreams, our aspirations.

We have so much to be proud of, and we have a lot to look forward to. All across this country people are continuing to organize around progressive principles. And that effort on behalf of progressive Democrats will form the basis of a whole new politics in this country. It'll help elect Democrats; it'll help elect progressive candidates. And you know another thing it'll do? It'll slowly, but surely, help to change the politics of this country and have an impact on the world itself.

Your efforts and the efforts of the people in eight states to go on record in support of a cabinet-level Department of Peace is part of an ongoing commitment we have to making this a more peaceful world.

I pledge to you my continued commitment to that important, heart-felt concern. I also pledge to you my willingness to work with you to create a congress - a house and a senate - that's more responsive to the people.

There's a lot of work to do in this election, and you know I've made my choice in the Presidential campaign. I'm going to work very hard to elect John Kerry. But I'm also mindful of our responsibility, notwithstanding where our nominee is standing on anything, it's about our responsibility to continue our involvement to push our party and those who represent it in a direction where we can create peace in this world. Where we can create health care for all, jobs for all, education for all, retirements security -- for all those things we talked about in the campaign.

But you know what? It all goes back to you and what you did to make it possible. The efforts that you made in organizing, in fundraising, in carrying our message forward. I can't tell you how proud that I am to be part of your efforts and to have had the privilege of leading it.

So as we get ready for what is certain to be a momentous election in November, I'm letting you know that you always will have my gratitude, my participation, and my willingness to stand up and speak out, and to reach out to you - to work with you - on all the things that you're concerned about.

So stay in touch with us. Stay in touch with us through the web site, stay in touch with us through the efforts that I'm involved in in Washington, and we'll meet again. We'll continue to work together, and I look forward to those opportunities when we can come together as a community in peace, and in prosperity.

Thank you very much, and I love all of you.
