Statement of Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich On Reports That The FBI Is Monitoring Protesters Of The Upcoming Republican Convention

Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) issued the following statement, today, on media reports that the Administration is using the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) to monitor groups planning to protest the upcoming Republican National Convention in New York City:

"Reports that the Administration is using the Federal Bureau of Investigations to infiltrate and intimidate citizens exercising their first amendment rights, and protesting the upcoming Republican Convention, is both troubling and wrong. At this critical time, when the public needs the FBI to protect our hometown security, it is wrong for the Administration to use the FBI for its own political security. Peaceful dissent is the hallmark of a democratic society, this Administration's use of the FBI to shield it from such dissent is regrettable and shameful."
