Rainbow/PUSH, Oregon, Boston Convention, and more
From Dennis Kucinich (audio):
Hi everyone, this is Dennis!
We had a very good weekend at the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition. I joined Jesse Jackson on a panel with Governor Howard Dean and many members of Congress. The whole idea is to get ready for the 2004 election in a powerful way and begin with strategies to mobilize the vote. And I'll be telling you at a later date in detail some of the things that we discussed at the Rainbow Push meeting in Chicago. After that I went to meet with our organization in Oregon - it's a strong state organization - and we're getting ready to participate in a number of projects, including helping a number of members of Congress get re-elected in Oregon.
Our organization is certainly on the move and it is getting ready for a strong showing at Boston. And your efforts have enabled us to take this organization from where it was a year and a half ago to where we can confidently go to almost any place in the country and get people to participate in our efforts of grassroots activism and fundraising.
The plans for Boston are coming along - less than a month to go before the Convention. We still need your help in raising funds so that we can have a full presence at the convention, not only with our delegates, but also with all the volunteers who are coming to join us around the country. So with a few more days left in our fundraising cycle for this quarter, I'm asking you to participate, to help us with our plans to have a strong presence at the Convention and to have a strong presence with the platform. I mean, keep in mind that the message of this campaign - and it has been a message oriented campaign - has been one of peace and health care for all , of jobs, of fair trade , of civil liberties and more, and you've made it possible for us to advance that message. We're doing everything we can to make sure the Democratic Platform is relevant to this country.
So, help us keep it going, and please, before the end of this month, go to the web site and make a contribution . You know we have a goal of raising another $300,000 before we get to Boston to cover all our expenses. So enable us to do that. You deliver and you know that I will, too.
So I look forward to speaking with you again and giving you an update as the result of what happened out of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, which I think will prove to be quite significant. And I want to thank Jesse Jackson, by the way, for all of his work that he has done to help keep hope alive, which has always been his message. So let's talk again soon, and I will look forward to speaking with you.
This is Dennis. Bye now!
