Kucinich, Conyers lead civil rights and justice discussion Monday

July 25, 2004
Boston -- U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-OH, co-chairman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and U.S. Rep John Conyers, Jr., dean of the Congressional Black Caucus, will lead a panel discussion on “Civil Liberties, Civil Rights, and Justice” from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, July 26, at St. Paul's Church, 138 Tremont St.
Topics will include voting rights, reparations, the Patriot Act, women's rights, and other related subjects.
Other members of the panel are:
Dr. James J. Zogby, founder and president of the Arab American Institute (AAI), a Washington, D.C.-based organization that serves as the political and policy research arm of the Arab American community. He was also a co-founder and chairman of the Palestine Human Rights Campaign in the late 1970s, served as the Executive Director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, and co-founded Save Lebanon, Inc., a private non-profit, humanitarian and non-sectarian relief organization which funds health care for Palestinian and Lebanese victims of war.
Marty Martinez, Project Director at the Boston AIDS Consortium, co-founder of the Progressive Democrats of Somerville, and a member of the Steering Committee of the LGBTQ Youth of Color Coalition. He is also involved in numerous other organizations, including Somos Latinos - the LGBT Latino Coalition.
Margaret Prescod, a coordinator with Global Women's Strike, a multiracial network of grassroots women in more than 60 countries. She also hosts a weekly radio show on KPFK (Pacifica Radio) in Los Angeles .
Zeen Kahn, Massachusetts Democratic State Committee member, will be the moderator.
The event is free and open to the public.
This is one of a series of events organized and sponsored by supporters of Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich “to focus public attention on crucial issues and progressive political approaches to help address and resolve those issues,” explained Tim Carpenter, Deputy National Campaign Manager for the Kucinich campaign.
