Kucinich Opens Convention Office

Congressman and Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, who has been promising supporters for months that he intends to take his campaign all the way to the Democratic National Convention in Boston, just moved closer to that goal. When the Convention opens at the Fleet Center on July 26, Kucinich and his staff will be headquartered in offices near the Boston Common, about six minutes away. And the Kucinich convention team will be headed by Democratic convention veteran and long-time political activist Tim Carpenter.[Read Bio]

“We intend to wage an aggressive campaign within the Democratic Party at the convention on issues like peace, health care, jobs and trade agreements, and civil liberties,” said Kucinich.

Kucinich said he will challenge the leadership of the Democratic Party on several fronts, foremost among them the war in Iraq. “The Party needs to take a strong stand on Iraq, which means ending the occupation and bringing our troops home. We will do everything in our power to deliver that message,” said Kucinich.

On Monday, at a combined headquarters-opening and news media briefing, Kucinich and his convention team will outline their plans “to move the Party in a new direction.” Kucinich, who will be campaigning in Oregon that day, will address his staff and speak with the news media via telephone. Petitions Pouring In

Thank you to everyone who is out there gathering petitions. We have already received tens of thousands of petitions in both online signatures and hard copies mailed in to Headquarters. However, there is still much work to be done in order to deliver a million signatures to the Democratic Party platform committees. Remember to encourage anyone who supports these issues to sign the petitions - it’s about influencing the Party. Click here to sign petitions

This week is “Cover the Uninsured Week,” a nationwide effort to raise awareness about the 44 million Americans who lack health care. Go to www.covertheuninsuredweek.org for information about local events to collect signatures for our universal health care petition.

A new web page design will be unveiled in the next few days in an effort to clearly articulate these dual tracks and reflect the campaign’s new energy and focus. Stay tuned to www.kucinich.us.
