Carrboro rolled out the welcome mat for one of the two remaining Democrats campaigning for president.

Town mayor Mike Nelson declared April 4th as Congressman Dennis Kucinich Day in the Orange County town.

About 300 people came to a rally to hear what the Ohio Congressman had to say.

The outspoken liberal congressman and Democratic presidential hopeful spoke to the crowd and answered questions for about ninety minutes Sunday afternoon.

Kucinich addressed familiar themes of universal healthcare, peace in Iraq, and ending NAFTA.

The Congressman is mathematically out of the Democratic bid for the White House but he says this is about a grassroots effort to change the direction of his party.

"One of the reasons I'm staying in this race even though the nomination has been decided is to make sure the Democrats have a voice for peace, for healthcare for all, for fair trade, and for civil liberties, getting rid of the Patriot Act," said Congressmen Kucinich.

Even though he won't likely get the party's nomination, if he wins a certain percentage of a precinct, for example in Orange County, he could have a number of delegates voicing his views at the Democratic National Convention.
