Why is Kucinich Going On to the Convention?

From the campaign website's Convention page

Congressman Kucinich has publicly stated that he will support the nominee - after the convention. Until then, he has promised to continue to give voice to those who long for issues that are not currently being addressed by the frontrunner.

Congressman Kucinich remains committed to being the voice for progressive "New Deal" democrats. Our party must continue to debate issues such as single-payer universal health care, jobs, trade, the war in Iraq, and the need for a Department of Peace.

The Democratic Party needs every vote to defeat George W. Bush. Kucinich gives voice to our practical aspirations without fracturing the party.

Fair Trade agreements protect workers' rights and the environment. Kucinich is the only candidate with the courage to publicly acknowledge that NAFTA and the WTO are flawed trade policies that cost American jobs.

Only Dennis will speak loudly and clearly about getting out of Iraq - with a plan to bring in the U.N. to take over security in Iraq and manage the oil contracts, so that we can bring our troops home.

Dennis is the voice for voters who want peace. Dennis will work with the eventual nominee and Congress to develop a cabinet-level Department of Peace. Dennis is the voice for voters who want to get out of Iraq.

Dennis has made a promise to progressive and "FDR" Democrats that they will have a stake in this democratic primary season. His promise, and his decision to remain in this race, is extended because of his fundamental belief that all Americans should have a voice in the democratic process.

Dennis can talk about important issues outside of the "spirited" debate promised between Kerry and President Bush. He can work to give rise to understanding on many important issues facing Americans, so that come November we have a better-informed voting public. George Bush will try to have debates without substance - Dennis will provide a staging ground for Kerry to bring issues of substance to the voters.

For example, Dennis is the candidate who can educate democratic voters about why the proposed Marriage amendment is wrong. After all, the only weapon we have against intolerance is education. The frontrunner risks much in this current climate of lies and misrepresentation, but Dennis can use this opportunity to tell Americans the truth about this issue.

By and large, Americans do not want to use the constitution to discriminate against other Americans - that's not what it's for. Take the misnamed "Patriot" Act - it is not patriotic to give away your rights in the name of fear!

Dennis is a Green Democrat and can work to offer a voice to Greens within the party. He can speak to the concerns of this constituency (and others), where Kerry cannot.

Dennis will bring these voters to the convention in July.
