John Kerry has reached the magic number. The Massachusetts senator has now secured the delegates he needs to win the democratic presidential nomination.
But that's not stopping one major underdog, who's refusing to drop out of the race.
Dennis Kucinich knows he's fighting an uphill battle, but with the time ticking away until Illinois voters head to the polls, he's making some last ditch campaign stops right here in the Heart of Illinois on Sunday.
Kucinich, is working hard to rally up support at the UAW Hall in East Peoria. Thee democrat is focusing on fair health care, saving jobs, and world peace.
Despite the fact that the numbers are not in his favo, he's not giving up.
“If you fall behind, do you then give up on your commitment? The real test on any of our commitments is where we stand when we are far from the goal,” says Dennis Kucinich, Democratic Presidential Candidate.
UAW leaders have been waiting for Kucinich's visit for over six months and now that he's finally here, they're hoping he can help make some big changes.
Even though the door has all but closed on his presidential hopes.
“It looks like Mr. Kerry has the nomination locked up, but I would like for Mr. Kucinich or anyone to carry our ideas to the leadership of the Democratic Party,” says Stan Valentine, a UAW Leader.
And that's exactly what Kucinich plans to do.
“Somebody needs to be out there as a spokesperson on behalf of concerns that would be swept aside,” says Kucinich.
Kucinich says the reason he's staying in the campaign is so that he can “keep the debate alive and keep the people in the U.S. aware.” It's something he says the current administration is not doing.
The primary elections are on Tuesday, be sure to tune into HOI 19 news for complete coverage.
