Kucinich wins "Backbone Award"
From the campaign website:
Dot Maver: "We have a special award for Congressman Kucinich this evening. Perhaps you are aware of the Backbone Campaign. Backbone awards are presented to courageous elected officials in recognition of their willingness to take principled progressive stands at politically lonely moments. Seriously, Ann Pollata is here to present the award."
Ann Pollata: "I'm back here folks, hi everybody, as you just heard this Backbone award couldn't go to anyone more deserving. We all know Dennis Kucinich has a backbone for all of us. I want you to pay special attention in the next several months leading up to the Democratic National Convention, the backbonecampaign.org is going to be doing lots of work to try to inspire, and organize, and lead people to the Democratic Party convention in Boston, to press, to urge, to inspire our politicians to lead with a backbone, and Dennis is going to be in the forefront of that. So, I've brought all of these kids up here tonight to give Dennis this backbone award because it is for them that he's doing this, it's for all of us but its for our kids' futures, and that's what it's all about. Thank you so much, Dennis."
Dennis Kucinich: "Thank you, thank you very much, thank you and this is truly a spine tingling moment. Thank you, thank you. And you know what? This is a campaign where all of us have determined that we're going to take a stand. Where each one of us has shown they have an ability and a willingness to take a stand when others decide that they can't stand no more. And so we shall not be moved. We will continue to stand. And we will continue to get our message out. A message of peace. A message of optimism. A message of hope. A message of social and economic justice. A message of education for all, and health care for all, and jobs for all, and retirement security for all. So, let's move forward, and let's party!"
