Kucinich announces Oregon campaign swing
U.S. Rep.Dennis Kucinich will visit Oregon next weekend ahead of the state's May 18 presidential primary, his campaign announced on Sunday.
The Ohio Democrat is registered as a candidate on the Oregon ballot along with John Kerry, Lyndon H. Larouche, Jr., and Al Sharpton, although Kerry has already won enough delegates to secure the nomination at the Democratic Party convention in July.
Kucinich said he will use his visit to encourage Oregonians to support progressive policy planks at that convention.
"While the nominee for the upcoming election may be a foregone conclusion, what we stand for as the Democratic Party is not a foregone conclusion," Kucinich said in the statement.
"We must be the party that stands for peace, for health care, and for social and economic justice," he said.
Kucinich's tour opens Friday at the Lincoln High School Gymnasium in Portland at 7 p.m. He will also speak in Salem, Eugene, Corvallis, Roseburg, Ashland and Medford, leaving Oregon on March 26, the statement said.
