TOLEDO -- Northwest Ohio is getting its first visit by a 2004 Democratic Presidential candidate.
U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich, (D-Lakewood), visited Bowling Green Wednesday morning and was making several stops in Toledo in the afternoon. The suburban Cleveland lawmaker plans to meet with labor leaders and then campaign door-to-door.
Kucinich has had a tough time of it so far.
He finished far behind Senator John Kerry in Tuesday's Democratic primaries in Tennessee and Virginia. Kucinich hasn't won any delegates but has indicated he intends to push on in the upcoming primaries.
Kucinich points to his recent third-place finishes in Maine and Washington as signs that his campaign is starting to resonate with voters and said his campaign still could change the race.
Kucinich has criticized Kerry, saying he is too similar to President Bush in his stance on Iraq.
Speaking in New York City earlier this week at a forum sponsored by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, Kucinich said the war in Iraq will be the instrumental issue in this November's election. He criticized Bush for starting the war, then took aim at Kerry, who supported the resolution authorizing it. Kucinich advocated for United Nations involvement in Iraq. Kerry, of Massachusetts, has said that he supported the war based on faulty U-S intelligence.
