Kucinich Bats 1000
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 22, 2004
Democratic Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich won applause every single time he spoke this evening.
Kucinich won strong applause for his commitment to cancel NAFTA and the WTO, and again for his challenge to all of the other candidates to join him in that position, and to replace NAFTA and the WTO with fair bilateral trade agreements. None of the other candidates accepted the challenge, although Dr. Howard Dean said that South Carolina had lost jobs as a result of NAFTA and the WTO "just as Dennis described." http://kucinich.us/issues/trade.php
Kucinich won loud applause for his proposal to lead this nation to 20 percent renewable energy by 2010 through an initiative comparable to President Kennedy's project that sent a man to the moon. http://www.kucinich.us/issues/clean_air.php
Kucinich won enthusiastic applause with his response when asked how he would eliminate the federal deficit. The questioner suggested that Kucinich wanted to increase government spending. In fact, Kucinich replied, he is the only candidate proposing to cut the Pentagon budget, the only candidate with a plan that would end the hugely expensive war in Iraq, the only candidate with a plan for health care that would cut out the waste of the for-profit insurance industry rather than increasing still further what we pay for health care. Kucinich was not asked about his tax plan. It would lower and simplify taxes for most Americans. Kucinich won cheers for saying he would not cut domestic programs, and would move our country in the opposite direction from where the Bush Administration is taking it. Here is the tax plan: http://kucinich.us/taxes_under_kucinich.php
Kucinich won applause twice this evening when he outlined his plan to send United Nations peacekeepers into Iraq and bring US troops home. Here is the plan: http://www.kucinich.us/bringourtroopshome.php Kucinich also expressed his opposition to the "PATRIOT Act." http://www.kucinich.us/issues/patriot_act.php
Kucinich won applause again for outlining his educational agenda, including moving our schools away from the current overemphasis on standardized tests, fully funding the needs of primary and secondary education, and creating free pre-kindergarten and college. Here is the plan: http://www.kucinich.us/issues/education.php
