Kucinich Files To Run For President
December 17, 2003

Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich Wednesday became the first Democrat to file for Ohio's presidential primary.

The former Cleveland mayor says he's confident he'll win the state's primary and go on to become the ninth U.S. president from Ohio.

President Bush has already filed for the Republican primary.

The 57-year-old has been trailing among the field of nine Democrats in most polls.

Kucinich also is seeking re-election to his northeast Ohio congressional district. He says the national campaign hasn't distracted him from constituent needs.

After speaking to cheering supporters at the state's Democratic headquarters, Kucinich led a march to the Secretary of State's office to submit his petitions and pay the filing fee. He made it ten minutes before closing time.
