Albuquerque-AP) -- Democratic presidential candidates Dennis Kucinich and Wesley Clark visited Albuquerque Monday to woo American Indian voters.

They spoke to the 60th annual conference of the National Congress of American Indians.

Kucinich says the government must create a bridge with Indian nations and start to tell the truth.

Kucinich says he’d begin by apologizing to Indians for a long history of usurping their land and rejecting their sovereignty.

Clark says the United States cannot move forward as long as it’s leaving people behind—including Indians.

Clark says Indians must participate in the election process in order to lead the country in the right direction.
