From Karin Caifa:
WHO WANTS TO BE A FIRST LADY?
Apparently, not too many ladies. As of Monday evening, the number of entries into the PoliticsNH.com-sponsored contest to find Dennis Kucinich a first lady stands at two [ed note: oddly enough, the author herself plugged this just yesterday as being a big deal. Go figure]. PoliticsNH.com Managing Editor James Pindell says he’s surprised at the low turnout because at this time of year the site typically gets 10,000 hits per day. He says that they’re not quite sure how long they’ll keep the contest open and, while the congressman hasn’t given his stamp of approval to the game, he’s not said he wouldn’t play along either. Pindell said the staff came up with the idea as another way to “try to inject fun into” the primary race. Kucinich was a particular target because “he’s always so darn serious.” Pindell went on to note Kucinich’s impeccable comedic timing when delivering the response that ultimately spawned the contest. Last week, I asked Kucinich if breaking loose the Manchester forum was the beginning of an eclipse of current campaign funnyman Al Sharpton. He replied with an impish grin, “You have no idea how much I appreciate Rev. Sharpton taking that burden off of my shoulders.”
MORE CELEBRITY ENDORSEMENTS
The Kucinich campaign announced Monday a host of new celebrity endorsements, adding to the already eclectic list. Actors Joaquin Phoenix (“Gladiator” and “Signs”) and Shelley Morrison (Karen’s maid, Rosario, on NBC’s “Will and Grace”) are now backing the Ohio congressman in his presidential bid. Also new to the list are rocker Michelle Shocked, who’s performed in a few benefits for the campaign, and Tim Reynolds of the Dave Matthews Band. When DMB rocked 30 Rock during a performance on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” this past weekend, Reynolds was reportedly sporting a Kucinich for Prez T-shirt. Also, just this weekend, Kucinich supporters received an audio postcard from actor Elliot Gould. Ben Affleck has donated to the campaign, and word is that little brother Casey (“Ocean’s Eleven”) may throw his support behind Kucinich.
