Kucinich to Kerry, Edwards: Time for an Iraq Exit Strategy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 15, 2003
For Immediate Release

Today, Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich called on fellow presidential candidates John Kerry and John Edwards, who have now joined him in opposing the additional $87 billion for the continued occupation of Iraq, to also join him in his plan to bring U.S. troops home with the U.N. taking over responsibilities for peace-keeping and transition.

"Now that we're challenging the continued occupation of Iraq, it's time for Democratic leaders to put forward an exit strategy," said Kucinich.

The exit strategy that Congressman Kucinich proposed last week is available at http://www.kucinich.us/statements.htm#100903

These 3 points are part of the proposal:

1. The U.N. handles all oil revenues for the benefit of the Iraqi people, with no privatization.

2. The U.N. handles all contracts for rebuilding, instead of no-bid contracts to U.S. companies close to the Administration.

3. The UN facilitates steps toward Iraqi self-determination.

Congressman Kucinich is the only presidential candidate who voted against the original Congressional authorization of the Iraq war.
