Imam Ako Abdul-Samad

Ako Abdul-Samad

Ako Abdul-Samad, an African-American activist and an imam in Des Moines, Iowa, is supporting Dennis Kucinich. Abdul-Samad is founder of the Creative Visions community center for disadvantaged youth, which focuses on helping them escape gangs and become contributing members of society, and in September 2003 was elected to the Des Moines School Board.

Abdul-Samad took part in a recent Kucinich rally in Des Moines. Although Abdul-Samad would like to support Al Sharpton, he feels that the U.S. is not yet ready for an African-American candidate. This is an unfortunate reality.

Note: Abdul-Samad has continued to campaign for Kucinich in Iowa, taking part in several events in December and January including a Diversity Fair, which the above picture is taken from.
