Following the campaign, October 18

From Karin Caifa:

FLORIDA STRAW POLL
The Kucinich campaign Friday afternoon said it would sign the DNC letter opposing the proposed December straw poll in Florida, regardless of what the other candidates were doing. “We are signing on because the Democratic Party has a long tradition of opposing straw polls and preferring to go by the votes counted in the primaries,” said campaign secretary David Swanson. “We have a preference for the actual votes counted in the caucuses and actual primaries.” Swanson also that straw polls too often do not include the proper representation of the population. As far as the “wait-and-see” mentality of some other bids, Swanson said this campaign wasn’t waiting for the rest of the pack. “We’re not signing on or waiting to sign on just because everyone else is.” Kucinich has a visit to South Florida planned for next Thursday.

HITTING THE ROAD
Last week, I told you about 20-year-old Jonathan Meier, the Kucinich supporter who plans to walk cross-country to raise funds and awareness for the campaign. He began his journey in Portland, Maine, Friday morning and will make his way through the state this weekend. He expects to arrive in New York City on Oct. 30; Washington, D.C., on Veterans’ Day (Nov. 11); and projects he’ll end his tour in San Francisco next February.

OVER THE WEEKEND
Kucinich becomes the first of the nine Democratic candidates to visit the 50th state: Hawaii. After a stop in California, where he’ll join Kroger grocery store workers on the picket line, Kucinich will attend a concert in Maui and attend meetings with Hawaiian leaders. The whirlwind excursion wraps up on the island of Oahu Sunday night.
