Following the campaign, October 7
From Karin Caifa:
KICKING THINGS OFF WITH A BANG
In case you’re like most of America and haven’t noticed, Dennis Kucinich is running for president. The campaign, perhaps fueled by those encouraging third-quarter fund-raising numbers, will zigzag across the country early next week to officially announce that the congressman from Cleveland has entered the race. The campaign’s been teasing me about plans for weeks: first just Cleveland, then six cities, then eight, now 12 stops on the announcement tour. The whirlwind excursion will include major Midwestern cities like Chicago, St. Louis and Detroit, as well as Des Moines, Iowa, and Manchester, N.H. (now how did they get on the list?). The tour will wind up in Washington, D.C. The campaign (and media) will be whisked around in a private jet. Just because Kucinich isn’t stopping in your town doesn’t mean you’re left out of the fun. Following up on their International Day of Peace success, where the campaign mobilized about 1,200 events in all 50 states, “supporters will celebrate the Presidential Campaign Announcement Tour with a new round of parties,” a release Monday said. “Houses decorated with red, white, and blue balloons and banners will host enthusiastic Kucitizens in towns and cities across the country.”
ARIZONA GETS READY
Arizona State Campaign Director Kevin Spidel called it “Dennis Week” in the state, with lots of activity surrounding the candidate. Spidel says Kucitizens will hold a pre-debate rally Thursday outside downtown Phoenix’s Orpheum Theatre, then head down the street to the Wyndham Hotel for a debate-watching party, complete with “Kucinich Cocktails,” fund-raising games and the sounds of a local band. The Arizona campaign is also sponsoring an event Saturday evening for “National Coming Out Day,” featuring comic Sabrina Matthews. “What better way to celebrate this day then supporting a man who advocates for gay marriage at the federal level?” says the Arizona for Kucinich Web site. “Come laugh to a wonderfully funny comedian and help create awareness for Dennis Kucinich on the issues of Gay Rights!” Spidel says the state committee is also preparing to welcome Kucinich to Phoenix during his announcement tour Oct. 13-15.
