Kucinich Campaign Turns International Celebration into Campaign Event:
Supporters Plan 1,000 House Party Fundraisers Sunday
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 19, 2003
On Sunday, Sept. 21 -- the U.N.-designated International Day of Peace -- Dennis Kucinich will attend two of the 1,000 events expected around the country. The events will be used to promote Kucinich's presidential platform for peace and to raise funds for the campaign.
Rep. Kucinich is himself scheduled to take part in two of Sunday's House Parties, in California. Actors Ed Begley Jr. and James Cromwell will also speak, along with Kucinich, at the Los Angeles house party at 6:15 p.m. PST.
The U.N. has designated Sept. 21 as International Day of Peace, and it is celebrated worldwide. A U.N. Resolution and proclamations from the Governors of 12 U.S. states call for a global ceasefire and day of nonviolence. See www.PeaceDayUSA.org.
Congressman Kucinich has won widespread support from the U.S. peace movement. He is the only presidential candidate who has unwaveringly opposed the War in Iraq from the beginning and led Congressional opposition to the war. He has unequivocally opposed the President's request for another $87 billion and called for bringing the troops home now and turning control of Iraq over to the United Nations.
Kucinich is the only candidate... -who has a specific plan to trim waste from the bloated Pentagon budget to fund education and childcare; -who sued the Bush administration to save the ABM Treaty; -who sponsors a bill to establish a cabinet-level Department of Peace; -who won the Gandhi Peace Award of 2003; - who was endorsed by one of Iowa's leading peace groups, STAR*PAC.
