Give up smoking for Kucinich
If you sign up at http://www.kucinich.us/volunteer.php, you can receive the Kucinich campaign volunteer newsletter, the Kucitizen News, which just started up recently. The newsletter discusses various volunteer activities that are going on and offers tips and links to further resources. One part that I wanted to share was this:
3. The Monica and Bill Report [yes, those are their real names]
Monica and Bill, co-coordinators of Tulsa for Kucinich, tell us they spend $200 a month on their nicotine habit. Now, after 30 years, they've had enough. They're saying no to the tobacco giants who do not care about them and saying yes to someone who does care: Dennis Kucinich.
Monica writes, "Pray for my frazzled nerves!" Let's raise the stakes and give the couple even more incentive to quit smoking! Make a donation to the campaign for every day Monica and Bill do not smoke. Match Monica and Bill's pledge of about six dollars a day, the cost of two packs of cigarettes, or determine the pledge amount that is right for you. Collectively we will help Monica and Bill kick the habit as we rally behind Dennis.
Here's how it works.
1. Make a pledge. It's easy! Send an email to contacts@kucinich.us with your name and the amount you would like to pledge for each day Monica and Bill are smoke free. The pledge period is 90 days and runs from Thursday, September 18 through Tuesday, December 16. For each day both Monica and Bill are smoke free, you would owe the full amount of your pledge. If only one of the two makes it through a day without smoking, you would owe 1/2 of your pledge for that day.
2. Read Monica and Bill's journal and share your words of encouragement at http://us.denniskucinich.us/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=655
3. Pay up! After 90 days, we'll calculate your total pledge and remind you to pay it by the end of the year. It couldn't be easier! To avoid sticker shock, take a cue from Mary Kraft, the volunteer behind the "cup campaign" for Dennis. Her pennies are adding up! Read about Mary's idea at:

Think about it. If everyone reading this newsletter took action right now and pledged 25 cents a day to support this most excellent cause, Monica and Bill would have the potential of generating 4500 dollars a day for the campaign. Now that's one expensive cigarette! At that rate, after 90 days Monica and Bill could raise 405,000 dollars. They can't do it without you, so pile in! Do it now!
