Kucinich: Mr. President, It Is Time For The Whole Truth
Media Report Confirms The Administration Orchestrated An Organized Campaign Of False And Misleading Statements
Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH), leader of the opposition to the war against Iraq in the House, issued the following statement on a Washington Post story today that stated that despite a lack of evidence members of the Administration made uranium assertions before and after the President's State of the Union address:
"Today's media report confirms that from the top on down the Administration orchestrated an organized campaign of false and misleading statements to persuade the Congress of the United States and American pubic to support a war against Iraq.
"Today's Washington Post story debunks past claims by this Administration that the false uranium claim was limited to one speech or sixteen words. It is now clear that despite knowing the information could not be backed up by intelligence the Administration, from the top down, continued to use the false statements in an effort to play on the fears of the American public and mislead Congress.
"With the death of another US soldier overnight we were once again reminded of the consequences of this Administration's failed policy. To date 257 US soldiers have died in Iraq.
"It is well past time, that the President and his Administration stop their spin and campaign of deception. As the death toll mounts it is urgent that the United States plan to withdraw from Iraq and put the UN in charge of the transition. It is only through being forthcoming with the American public, and beginning the process of withdrawing our troops that this Administration can reestablish its credibility with the American public and the world community."
