Kucinich Statement on Liberia

Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) announced today that he has signed on to H. Con. Res 240, a bill introduced by fellow Progressive Caucus member and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Africa, Congressman Payne, in support of the "Agreement on Ceasefire and Cessation of Hostilities Between the Government of the Republic of Liberia and Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy and the Movement for Democracy of Liberia".

Kucinich stated:

"This bill not only urges the United States to take a greater and more active role in supporting the Ceasefire Agreement but also encourages the U.S. to offer humanitarian assistance to the people of Liberia. This bill emphasizes the importance of the United States working in cooperation with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the United Nations, and the African Union, to bring peace to Liberia.

"I urge all my colleagues to sign on to H. Con. Res. 240. We have a moral responsibility to offer this assistance to our brothers and sisters in Liberia."
