On House Floor Kucinich Supports Prescription Drug Reimportation Bill
This evening on the House floor, Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH), Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, spoke out in favor of legislation to support the reimportation of prescription drugs.
Kucinich stated:
"Yes, tonight, we are talking about safety. This is about who will safely protect the massive profits of the drug companies.
"The pharmaceutical industry wants to maintain the world's highest prices by telling consumers imported pharmaceuticals are unsafe, even though the drug companies import drugs as a normal business practice.
"They sold $15 billion in imported drugs in 2001. They save by buying from Canada and overseas. They just don't want their captive American consumers to save money. The Gutknecht bill is the pill that will cure the drug companies of their greed.
"It will also signal a moment in this House when the power of government of the people, by the people, and for the people rises to its glory."
