Kucinich: President's War Abroad Increases Likelihood Of Terror At Home
News Report Indicates Country Will Go To 'Dark Orange' Terror Alert Status
Recent news reports that our nation will go to a 'dark orange' terror alert status if war breaks out is a stark reminder that the President's rush to war in Iraq is making our country, and the world, less safe, stated Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) today.
Today, Kucinich, who leads opposition in the House to the war in Iraq, issued the following statement:
"Reports in Newsweek that our nation would be put on a 'dark orange' alert if the US attacks Iraq reveal that the Administration knows that this war in Iraq will make the US less secure.
"I believe we must do all we can to protect our nation from the ongoing threat of terrorism. It is clear that this war against Iraq will make the US less secure. How can this Administration justify war against Iraq when it raises the likelihood of terror at home?
"The Administration has repeatedly failed to make a case that Iraq possess an imminent threat to our nation. The Administration has failed to make a connection between Iraq and Al-Qaeda with regard to 9/11. Nor has the Administration produced evidence connecting Iraq and 9/11. Yet, they have pushed our nation, and the world, to the verge of war, which they themselves say would make our nation more vulnerable.
"The recent capture of a key Al Qaeda leader by Pakistan demonstrates the importance of international coalitions and cooperation in our efforts to root out terrorism The Administration's current policy towards Iraq threatens to isolate the United States and alienate the very allies we need to fight terrorism.
"The President's unjustified and unprovoked war preparation is alienating the United States from the international community. This policy, and the President's rush to war, far from making our country safer, is making our nation less safe. This report once again demonstrates that the Administration's misguided and reckless policy towards Iraq could have very dangerous ramifications at home."
