Kucinich: War Rhetoric, Massive Troop Mobilization Abroad Puts Nation At Greater Risk At Home
Today's announcement that the Office of Homeland Security has raised the 'National Terror Threat Level' to 'high' is striking evidence that the Administration's war rhetoric and massive troop build-up around Iraq, far from making our nation more secure, is putting our nation at greater risk, stated Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) today.
Kucinich, who leads opposition in the House to the war in Iraq, today issued the following statement:
"Today's announcement by the Office of Homeland Security once again demonstrates that the Administration's war rhetoric, and massive troop build-up in the region is putting our nation at greater risk.
"Iraq does not pose an imminent or immediate threat to the United States. Yet, despite this fact, the Administration has continued to march towards war. With over 150,000 service men and women poised around Iraq, and an acceleration of war rhetoric in recent months, the Administration has pushed the country to verge of war.
"Today's announcement is striking evidence that this march to war, far from making our nation more secure, has raised the threat to Americans, not only abroad, by here at home as well.
"I hope the Administration will heed its own warning, pull the nation back from the verge of war, and direct all our efforts towards ensuring the safety of our nation. We can do this through continuing to support the United Nations weapons inspection process, not rush to war. It is clear, that a preemptive war against Iraq is counterproductive."
