more about how Al-Muhajabah's Islamic Blogs is set up

As I mentioned previously, each of my three categories (A Quranic Journal, The Clipboard, and veiled4allah) has its own index page and I have a main index page that serves as a portal.

I have category archives set up, but they only list the title of each post in the category with a link to the individual entry page (which are the "real" archives for Al-Muhajabah's Islamic Blogs). At first I didn't use category archives at all; I had one page with a list of all entries, sorted by category. However, this page became too large so then I switched over to using the category archives to handle the lists. I also added a simple archive index that provides links to all the archive pages.

Besides the category archives, I also have daily archives. These list all entries from any category posted on a given day. I use these in conjuction with MT's calendar feature. Once I've been blogging for more than a year (May 24), I can also use the OnThisDay plugin to provide links to what I was posting "on this day" in previous years.

The daily archives are mostly peripheral to the way I have Al-Muhajabah's Islamic Blogs set up; they're really just another way of providing the same information that might be convenient to people. And they go with calendars and OnThisDay better than weekly or monthly archives.

In future posts, inshallah, I'll discuss more about how I set up each kind of archiving and what tricks I use there.
