show the previous and next entry in category

On my individual entry archive page I provide links to the next and previous entries in the category instead of overall. This is particularly important for the way that I have my blog set up, since the three categories (A Quranic Journal, The Clipboard, and veiled4allah) are so distinct, but it's frequently requested by users with a more standard blog set up as well.

There are several different ways of doing this. The original method involved creating a huge template file as an array to be search. Then there was the method using the SQL plugin, mentioned below. Recently, Phil Ringnalda came up with a new plugin that makes it very simple to do this, since it's designed for the purpose.

I use the SQL plugin because it's the easiest in my opinion.

This MT support forums thread shows the code to use (scroll down to Nikki's post near the end for the best version).

The SQL plugin can be used for a lot more than this, if you know MySQL. I don't so I'm not really make as much use of this plugin as I could be.
