display a random entry or comment
The section called "Wayback Machine" is intended to feature random entries and comments from my blog. I added this to encourage people to check out some of my older entries that they might not have seen before.
For the featured entry, I use the RandomEntries plugin, and for the featured comment, I use the RandomComment plugin.
Like most plugins, these are pretty straight-forward to use. Upload the plugin files then add the new tags to your template. Note that these two plugins function slightly differently. The RandomComment plugin will only display one random comment, while the RandomEntries plugin allows you to specify the number of random entries that you want to display. With either plugin, you get a container tag that does the random selection, and you can use regular comment or entry tags inside it.
