explosions in London

Date: July 07, 2005 | 29 Jumada al-Awwal 1426 Hijriah
Subjects: condemn, terrorism
Seven explosions in London, believed to be coordinated terrorist attacks. Al-Qa'ida suspected but not confirmed yet.

Whoever is responsible for this atrocity will face the wrath of God for the crime they have committed. He who takes a single innocent life is as though he had killed all mankind (Quran 5:32). My prayers are with the victims and their families. May God ease their pain and help them cope. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.

Added: CAIR:

A prominent national Islamic civil rights and advocacy group today condemned this morning's bomb attacks in London as "barbaric crimes." In its statement, the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said:

"We join Americans of all faiths, and all people of conscience worldwide, in condemning these barbaric crimes that can never be justified or excused. American Muslims offer their sincere condolences to the loved ones of those who were killed or injured in today's attacks and call for the swift apprehension and punishment of the perpetrators."

The Muslim Council of Britain and other British Islamic groups issued similar condemnations of the attacks and urged Muslims to help in the recovery effort.

Aside: People who claim that Muslims are "silent" are sometimes faced with the refutation of this lie. See also Muslim leaders condemning terror to deaf? See also Truly Muslim, Fully American for one Muslim woman's perspective on being defined only by whether she condemns terrorism vigorously enough.

Also, a beautiful message and reminder from Natalie Davis. Unfortunately, the backlash may already be beginning (one Muslim has died from being beaten).

Added: Several commentators have noted that the subway stations targeted include some in predominately Muslim neighborhoods in London. And learn about Shahara Islam, Muslim and apparent victim of the attacks (she is missing and her body has not been found).

Also: Perspectives and personal accounts of British Muslims Thabet and Yusuf. Be sure to also read Zack Ajmal's post, which quotes Thabet. This is a point I've tried to make before myself, though perhaps not so eloquently. And for more, see Hesham Hassaballa.
