France's underclass of Muslim inmates

Date: December 08, 2004 | 25 Shawwal 1425 Hijriah
Subjects: islam, prisons
In the past, I've posted several times on the issue of Islam in American prisons: facts and figures, concern of the popularity of radical interpretations, and steps prisons are taking to best accommodate the religious needs of Muslim inmates.

It seems this is no longer a purely American concern. The New York Times looks at Muslims and Islam in French prisons (registration required to view article) and how neglect and denial results in radicalism among inmates.
