it's official

Date: October 08, 2004 | 23 Shaban 1425 Hijriah
Subjects: career
I received the official offer letter for becoming a full-time employee and will be faxing it in on Monday, inshallah. The salary they've offered is about $400 a month more than what they were paying me as an independent contractor, plus I get medical, dental, vision, vacation, and 401(k). big grin

Up till now, I hadn't mentioned who it was that had hired me, since I wasn't sure of the protocol, but now that they're bringing me on as a regular employee, I don't think it needs to be secret anymore.

I'm working for Six Apart, the company that makes the Movable Type blogging software, and runs the TypePad hosted blogging service. In case you're curious, Six Apart just received $10 million in venture capital this week and that's why they're hiring.

My head is still spinning a bit at how quickly they're bringing me along. A lot of high tech companies seem to be very reluctant to bring people on as employees and have to pay benefits and so on, they like to keep them as contractors. From what I've seen in the last two and a half months of working for Six Apart in various capacities, they treat their people well and that's something you can't really put a price on.

Since I work from home, I don't deal with my co-workers face-to-face, but I'm in pretty constant communication with my supervisor throughout the day, mostly via email. She's been terrific in helping me on the learning curve, in keeping me up-to-date on things, and in looking out for my interests with the company. So that's another way I feel I'm working with and for some good people.

All praise is due to Allah SWT for giving me this wonderful opportunity.

totally cool
