migrant workers in Saudi Arabia

Date: August 13, 2004 | 26 Jumada al-Akhir 1425 Hijriah
Subjects: labor, saudia
Almost exactly a year ago (where does the time go?) I posted about the mistreatment of Palestinians in Saudi Arabia. That post noted that this mistreatment is not uniquely directed at Palestinians but rather is directed at all non-Saudis.

Human Rights Watch recently released a report on the exploitation and abuse of migrant workers in Saudi Arabia. The exploitation of immigrant workers is not limited to Saudi Arabia, of course.

To learn what Islam teaches about how workers should be treated, see The Quran and Worker Justice (PDF). As is often the case, this reprehensible practice is not only not part of Islam, but in fact is condemned by it. Just a reminder, folks.
