job interview

Date: April 27, 2004 | 7 Rabi al-Awwal 1425 Hijriah
Subjects: career, paralegal
The job interview went OK, I think. The hiring attorney was telling me a bit about the firm and mentioned that they're very strict about keeping an exact 8 to 5 schedule but currently the staff are negotiating to get a little more flexibility with the bus schedules so that they might arrive fifteen minutes early and leave fifteen minutes early. To be honest, that sounds a bit too rigid for my taste (they don't even allow fifteen minutes leeway?), but a job is a job. My only real concern is my lack of experience, because they might prefer a candidate with more experience as a paralegal.

Annoyingly, as I was coming up to the building, this woman passing by looked at me and said loudly "Shame on you". How rude. roll eyes

Later, as I was on the bus going home, this guy was trying to figure out the best stop to get off at. He was going over to a warehouse to inquire about a job. This other guy who was on the bus decided to get off and go over with him to see if the warehouse had any other openings. A sign of the times.

Hopefully, I'll get called back for a second interview, inshallah. If not, al-hamdulillah ala kulli hal.

Subject: This site is great

HI!
I just came across this site tonight and I love it! I'm so interested in what a life of a paralegal student is like (going to college this Fall as a junior) and what life is like after school, job interviews and the job itself. Keep up the blogs and look forward to hearing about your life as a paralegal! smile

What's really bugging me about the job market right now, aside from its failing to respond to my needs, is the attitude of employers. Now that the market is on their side, they are taking shameless advantage of the situation and being horrible to employees and prospective employees. It's amazing that they are so interested in petty retaliation for the 90s and they are completely overlooking the fact that times will get better and eventually good labor will again be in short supply. The ones who insist on 8 to 5 with no exceptions will end up wondering why they can't get or keep good people and they will never figure it out.

Always remember that it is much easier to find a job when you have one so just take anything you can get, put up with it for three months and start looking again.

Asalaamu alaykum,

Regarding the shame on you lady, I have noticed a lot of random uptightness on the part of non-muslims to covered ladies. To be honest, its sort of frightening to get such looks of hatred. I haven't gotten this many in ages. I think the ladies need to watch out more nowadays.
