justice for Captain Yee at last

Date: March 19, 2004 | 27 Muharram 1425 Hijriah
Subjects: commentary
So it comes to this. When Captain James Yee, the Muslim chaplain at Guantanamo, was arrested last September there was practically hysteria from some quarters, ranting about "fifth columns" and "enemies within". Today, all charges against Yee were dropped. Those people who rushed to judge him guilty, and by extension all Muslim Americans, ought to be ashamed of themselves. But I doubt they will be. Who wants to let the facts get in the way of their Islamophobia?

asalamu alaykum,

it's really sad that some people would think this way about others. We have to do more as muslims because it's the absence of a lot of us that allows people to accept brainwash from the media and to accept extremists as representative of muslims and the expectation of the muslim population. It also allows some people to accept and encourage extremist acts against innocent muslims and/or arabs whether by an individual or the government. However, we are only 6% of the population in the US, estimated, however we have our duties and may Allah helps us do them, ameen.

Asalamu alaykum,
John

Thank God! I hope this is just the first and as the Bush administration continues to face fire for its dishonesties it will have to set free the many scapegoats it has collected over the past couple of years. I am not Muslim, but I have given to Muslim charities to try and lessen the impact on so many good organizations working to help people which have been crippled by hysterical actions by the government and the culture at large. I'd encourage freedom-loving Americans to do the same, whether Muslim or not. We have to come together and insist that the Bill of Rights prevail in all of these cases!
