It is very important that as Muslims (and for that matter as human beings of conscience) we refresh ourselves with the lessons of history from the great sacrifice of the grandson of our beloved Prophet (peace be upon him) and bring about a reform in our communities and in every part of the world living up to the mission of the prophet as mercy to mankind and follow the deen of our prophet – the deen which Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) protected and defended on the plains of Kerbala on this day some 1300+ years ago. Clearly, wickedness of the time of Yezid continues to prevail till this day - every land is Kerbala and every day is Ashura - we are urged to take a stand against injustice and oppression. Let us pray for the innocent souls of those deceased in Iraq and pay for the quick return of peace and security to that part of the world. Let us also pray that Allah SWT grants strength to the survivors of the tragedies to bear the loss of their loved ones.In a later email, he added:
I hope we become smart enough to seek the help of and closeness to Allah SWT and plants seeds of cooperation and mercy between all of humanity starting with our own hearts.I can't think of anything more to say right now except "Ameen" to his prayers and "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un"1 for the innocents who perished.

Subject: Re: terrorists strike at the heart of Shi'a Islam
Sadly, this is true. We can't even seem to stop fighting amongst ourselves, much less resolve the many other problems we faceSubject: Attack on Shi'ites
Thanks for posting this item on your weblog - as a Shi'ite it is comforting to see non-Shi'ite sites offering condolences and expressing outrage at such actions - sectarian violence (if that is indeed the cause behind these attacks) is the last thing Muslims need in times like these.Wasalaam,

Subject: Attacks in Karbala
Although it has taken me a long time to post this comment(partly due to technical difficulties) my feelings on this are still as strong and sincere as when I first heard about it.
I agree wholeheartedly with the views expressed by Shia pundit
and yourself. it is difficult to find words for this kind of atrocity but
the ones that came to mind are Wicked and unGodly.
As a Christian living in Britain feel complete solidarity with my brothers and sisters in Islam on this. We must join together and draw strength from what we have in common in the face of those who would divide and destroy.
Peace and good wishes
David
