the beard threat returns

Date: February 25, 2004 | 4 Muharram 1425 Hijriah
Remember that story that France was considering banning beards in public schools? They'll be glad to know they're in good company: Turkmenistan also wants to ban the beard:

Turkmenistan President Saparmurat Niyazov has passed a decree forbidding young men in the country to wear long hair or beards. The president said the Education Ministry should be in charge of checking people's hair as the issue was most pressing among the young.

Mr Niyazov's rule in the central Asian state has always been authoritarian.

But his latest decree takes to a new level the degree of state intervention in people's private lives.

President Niyazov appeared on television saying that men can no longer grow their hair and that beards are not allowed, at least among the young.
Apparently, Turkmenistan is following the lead of nearby Uzbekistan, which has been trying to ban Islamic religious practice for quite some time.

Congratulations, France. The home of liberty and equality wants to have the same policies as repressive authoritarian regimes.

Its very weird that I was playing some Soldiers of Allah, Islamic nasheed rap while reading htat, and the second i finished I heard

"How can they do this to you and me!
We turn on the TV and all we see
Is a world full of agony, a generation tragedy
Our Ummah is a misery"

Allah (SWT) is testing us, the world seems to be going against Islam publically and unshamefully.

Its really a joke, first the France thing (well Mustafa Kemal did it first in Turkey) which enraged me, then Germany and Britain are considering banning the headscarf, also Singapore is doing something, Australia is going against Islam, and so is Egyptian TV (the hijab is banned on egyptian tv), now Turkmenistan is ruled by a tryant, who in my best judgement rules like Farun (pharoah) and wants everyone to basically WORSHIP him. So i'm not surprised by him, and now Uzbeckistan? Ahh... where is Makkah and Madina as Yusuf Islam says in his song. Well, insha'Allah the Muslims will do their best and we will combat this horrific new "war" i guess you can call it, on Islam.

I've written my local paper on the hijab ban, and I got in the paper, I think that we all should do the same, also write your Senators. Even the most fascist pro-Israeli, pro-Bush Senator will be sympathetic towards religious freedom and the hijab.

I know that wont really do much, but we must use all (halal) means neccesary. Boycott French, Israeli, Turkmenistanic, Uzbeck products! Raise these issues if you are in a forum with candidates for President, tell a buddy at school about it, do SOMETHING at least. Make du'a, at least feel bad about it in your heart.

Al Hamdulilah, Al-Hamdulilah, Al-Hamdulilah we say, because things could always get worse, and we always thank Allah (SWT) for the way things are.

Jazakullah wa Khayrun.

As Salaamu Alaikum,

This is really very sad .. I can understand a non-Muslim country implementing rules like that but for a Muslim country to do the same is plain disgusting. May Allah protect us from tyrant rulers and may he save us from committing sins.

Alhamdulillah, some non-Muslim countries like South Africa are more accommodating towards Muslims than some Muslim countries. We are allowed to wear hijaab to schools and universities without any hassles. May Allah keep it that way.
