another hack attack

Date: February 08, 2004 | 16 Dhu-l-Hijjah 1424 Hijriah
Subjects: hacker
There was another DOS attempt on my site today from about 2:13 p.m. to 6:09 p.m. (the only thing unusual about the time is that it's right after I started posting to the Muslims for Kucinich blog for the day. Coincidence?) Since the MT comments script is not on the server right now, all it got the hacker was a bunch of 404s but the attempt shows up in my server access logs. It was less sophisticated that the previous one since it was all from one IP address (undoubtedly spoofed) whereas the previous one appeared to be from hundreds of IPs and uses a different script (Perl this time, Python last time).

Since no comments were actually generated, I didn't know about it until later, when my site actually did go down. I was expecting that the DOS attempt was happening at that time but it seems to have been earlier, oddly.

What's the big, bad, scary thing that I did to warrant this? Voting? Anybody who thinks they can intimidate me into not voting can go to hell. And no doubt they think of themselves as a "patriotic American". What a joke! If you think it's American to engage in cyberterrorism or to intimidate people from voting, you're delusional.

I've been looking into security measures for my site and ironically was attempting to post a message about it when the site went down. However, the comments script will remain down until further notice.
