Subject: Re: survey on Muslim women and mosques
Salaam, thanks for filling out the survey, as per your request and some problems I see with the survey, I am continuing to tweak it. The changes will be made shortly, and I may send out an email to all of those who have already filled it out to note the changes if they'd like to resubmit their surveys. More details to come in the email
Thanks again
Javed

As-Salaam Alaikum,Indeed the ethnicity thing is seen by many to be a problem. I've never encountered it really though. Probably because I've always been a minority so being a minority in an Islamic setting is indeed a wonderfully safe experience.
However, it is also good to have diversity. I find that most CBD mosques are multiethnic because they were designed to cater for the religious needs of city workers who are usually from a diverse range of backgrounds.
I think the way women are treated sometimes (esp. in the ethnic mosques) is disgusting. I was once in a certain ethnic groups mosque and a woman stopped by for Asr prayer and the Imam actually told her there was no room for women to pray in the mosque. It was a Tuesday or something so really there was plenty of room, esp. if following the Prophetic sunnah which never required phyisically separate spiritual spaces for men and women.
Wasalaam,
