Imagine the America you want to live in #16

Date: November 02, 2003 | 7 Ramadan 1424 Hijriah
Subjects: dialogue
This week's question is:

If you could designate how your tax dollars are spent, how would you want the funds dispersed, and why?

Post a comment and share your thoughts. Don't forget to read the ground rules for discussion! Please treat others with respect.

The basic rules I ask everyone to agree to follow are:

1) Listen with curiousity and respect.
2) Seek to understand others rather than to persuade them.
3) Offer what you can and ask if you need anything.
4) Speak honestly, but briefly so that others feel free to contribute
and be heard.

The basic principles of this dialogue are:

1) We need to get to know each other if we are to make America a better
place.
2) We can disagree on issues and still share common values.
3) Diverse experiences, opinions, and ideas create stronger dialogues.
4) Our lives and our future depend on human goodness.

My top three priorities are to ensure access to healthcare, education, and the justice system for all people, regardless of their income.

My first priority would be ALL children; ie: protection, security, love, health, education, diverse opportunity ... WE are RESPONSIBLE for all the children - for who they are today, and for whom they will become tomorrow.
My second concern would be COMPETENT healthcare for ALL. Good Health should not be a luxury for the wealthier people.
My third concern would be Mental Illness and Addiction. There is so much to be learned, so many to be helped.

hmmm, lot's of things I'd rather see my taxes go to

1. Universal quality healthcare for ALL, including non residents, legal or illegal (esp the kids)
2. True victim help within the justice system (most DA's are more concerned with just getting some conviction or plea bargain, not to inform the victims of a crime of their rights or status of a case)
3. How about stopping the "paying the farmers NOT to farm" thing? FEED people, and who gives a hoot about big business! Stop sending sub-quality food items overseas as aid! etc
4. Nix military spending
5. Send some REAL help for the AIDS crises in Africa, and forgive outstanding DEBTS
OK, that was more than just a tax comment *ahem*
