What gives me optimism is meeting and getting to know ordinary Americans from all walks of life who are committed to the causes of justice and liberty and to making America a country that truly lives up to its ideals.Subject: Re: Imagine the America you want to live in #14
I agree with al-Muhajabah here...our nation has the right ideals, even if we don't always live up to them. And I think it was Winstin Churchill who said, "Americans will always do the right thing, after they have exhausted all other possibilities."Subject: Re: Imagine the America you want to live in #14
What makes me a little bit optimistic about the future of America is the fact the 2004 elections are not so far away. Even though the chances of any change in US foreign policy are slim, it will be nice to see Bush officially become a one-term president.Subject: Re: Imagine the America you want to live in #14
Or am I being way too optimistic?Subject: Re: Imagine the America you want to live in #14
part of my optimism comes from what i call the Seattle generation. The young kids have figured out how to sift through the lies and form their own thoughts about globalization and all that comes with it. They are either undogmatic, or have their own new dogmas, and they have a healthy skepticism about triditional lefty dogmas about zionism, muslims, third world etc. some of this comes from their fresh energy, and their lack of traditional organizational patriarchy.Subject: Re: Imagine the America you want to live in #14
I just hope the 2004 elections turn out better than 2000Subject: Re: Imagine the America you want to live in #14
Unfortunately, I am not optimistc about the future of America. We are contaminating our environment with too many cancer causing chemicals. Our ground water is even showing benzene. People are building homes which are nothing but showpieces with smaller families and we are going to go bankrupt fighting the wars in Afganistan and Iraq just like Russia did. Our prisons are being built faster than our schools. The media is getting more and more pornagraphic and violent which teaches bad things to our children.I personally think the only thing which is going to save the earth is mother nature who will unlease a virus or a comet which will hit us all.
Most people just seem to only care about themselves. Homeless mentally ill people are filling our jails and our streets while money is being raised to save homeless pets.
I wish I could be more optimistic. I have heard every older generation thinks the next is going to be the last because of what they are doing.
There are many many good people, but it just seems wars will never end and people don't take enough care of keeping the planet clean.

I am optimistic about America. Why you may ask? I see many brothers and sisters who are growing strong in Islam. I see many non-Arab American Muslims who are setting high standards for their kids. The non-arab muslims continue to grow strong and instill strong values to their children. When I see this it gives me hope for the future. Islam will always be victorious - alhamdulilah / praise be to God. Despite the hypocracy and policies of this country in general- we must equip our children so one day they will become the leaders of their community, country, of thier world. May God Bless America - May God Bless the world. Peace.
