killing comment spam

Date: October 13, 2003 | 16 Shaban 1424 Hijriah
Subjects: website, features
If you're an MT blogger or read a lot of MT blogs, you've probably heard about the comment spam epidemic in the last couple of weeks. I've even seen some of it here.

Jay Allen has developed a plugin called MT-Blacklist that provides Movable Type blogs with a spam-blocking system. It's as easy as can be to install and configure it; just upload three files, load the MT-Blacklist app in your browser, select your configuration options, load the blacklist, and you're done.

Jay is encouraging all users to publish their blacklists to their websites so that other MT bloggers can import them and make use of them. Working together, we can hold our own against the spammers, inshallah. My blacklist is at http://www.muhajabah.com/blacklist.txt and it's free for anybody to make use of.

If you are an MT blogger, I strongly encourage you to install MT-Blacklist.

Note 1: See my later entry about comment problems. If you're an advanced MT blogger who has hacks, mods, and patches installed, you may want to hold off.

Note 2: The developers of Movable Type are supporting MT-Blacklist and promise to integrate comment spam blocking in MT and TypePad
